Expedition Unknown Premiere

Amelia Earhart

Expedition Unknown premiered last night at 9pm on the Travel Channel, with former SyFy Destination Truth host Josh Gates.  Fans of Destination Truth would recognize his old crew member and cameraman Evan Goldberg as his new cameraman on Expedition Unknown.   In Destination Truth, he seemed to be a target for paranormal activity.  In this episode, as stated above, Gates was investigating the famous aviator Amelia Earhart with the humor his fans have come to love.

“Aviator Amelia Earhart was born on July 24, 1897 in Atchison, Kansas. In 1923, Earhart, fondly known as “Lady Lindy,” became the 16th woman to be issued a pilot’s license. She had several notable flights, becoming the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean in 1928, as well as the first person to fly over both the Atlantic and Pacific. In 1937, she mysteriously disappeared while trying to circumnavigate the globe from the equator. Since then, several theories have formed regarding Earhart’s last days, many of which have been connected to various artifacts that have been found on Pacific islands—including clothing, tools and, more recently, freckle cream. Earhart was legally declared dead in 1939″ (from http://www.biography.com/people/amelia-earhart-9283280).

It was these theories that Josh Gates went to investigate.  He spent a lot of time with the locals in Papua New Guinea, and did an interview during a sizable earthquake.  Throughout the show, in true Josh Gates style, he drank strange drinks, was at the wrong end of a spear, traveled to a village in a float (that was just barely afloat).  He also nearly passed out while trying some strange fruit-like drug.  In the end, he wound up spending time with the local police.  Josh chased down every lead he could find, in several places.  He found a few planes that definitely did not belong to Amelia Earhart, but did belong to someone.  One was definitely a WWII Japanese fighter plane.  There were remains in the plane, underwater.  He also spoke to a man that was convinced he had a piece of Earhart’s plane recovered from a remote Island.  After chasing down all of these leads, Josh found a man who had found a box of human bones under his house in 1968 at the age of thirteen.  The man turned the bones over to the Fiji museum, where they were lost.  However, the man arranged for Josh to dig under his old home where the bones were found; it turns out the police never bothered to do that after human remains were found in the 60’s.  I wouldn’t want to die in Fiji.  After crawling under the little house, with lots of spiders, Josh dug in the sand and found a bunch of bones.  He decided to stop and inform the authorities.  When they went under the house in hazmat suits, to which Josh said, “Why didn’t I think of that?”  The police did confirm that at least one of the bones Josh dug up was indeed human. There his investigation came to an end, it was in the hands of the Fiji police.  Let’s hope they are more thorough than their predecessors.

It was a good show, similar to Destination Truth, but with more reliable rental vehicles and less crew members.  I’m sure the episodes to come will be worth watching.

Expedition Unknown with Josh Gates

Expedition Unknown with Josh Gates

Premieres ont he Travel Channel Jan 8, 2015 at 9 pm Eastern

Josh Gates was the host of my favorite show, Destination Truth.  Now that he has a new show on the Travel channel, my hopes of Destination Truth ever returning to SyFy are crushed.  If you’ve never seen it, Josh Gates took a crew to various locations around the world to investigate things like cryptids, paranormal activity, UFO sightings, and even an alien mummy once.  They made some incredible discoveries and brought home some incredible evidence.  However, the show has clearly been murdered.

I suppose Expedition Unknown is like Destination Truth reincarnated.  It’s not exactly the same, but in the same spirit.  On the two hour premiere, Josh will investigate Amelia Earhart’s missing plane.  The show will be Josh Gates investigating mysteries around the world, which is similar to what Destination Truth was.  Maybe he’ll actually get a rental car that runs now that he’s on the Travel Channel.  I will certainly be watching, and probably writing posts about the show on here.  I could not find the commercial online, though I’ve seen it on the Travel Channel.  If you want to see pictures from the show, click the link below.

Lusca or Giant Octopus

Lusca or Giant Octopus

Last week I was watching some old episodes of Destination Truth, SyFy channel had a marathon.  One of the episodes was of the Lusca, a Giant Octopus, in the Bahamas.  I had a hard time finding that episode online, since the SyFy channel cancelled this awesome show.  However, I was able to find the same creature on an episode of Monster Quest.  The legend of the Giant Octopus or the Kracken has been around for ages.  We know more about the surface of the moon than we do about the waters of our own planet.  Anything could be lurking in the deep.  Nobody can say this creature, or any other creature for that matter, cannot exist because we just haven’t explored the deep waters enough.  Check out this video and see what you think.

Alien or something else?

Normally I would not give something like this much thought, however, there was something very similar to this on Destination Truth.  They investigated a cave which the locals claimed had aliens living in it.  They didn’t expect to find anything, instead they found a tiny grave.  They pulled out the little corpse and something looking like this was wrapped in a cloth.  After they found the body, they experienced a lot of strange phenomenon.  They were also somewhere in South America.

Ghost Adventures Transylvania Special

So last night the boys were in Romania for a special Halloween edition.  It was a two hour special and it did not disappoint, at least not for me.  I happen to find Romania in general fascinating, especially Vlad Tepes.  Aaron, Nick, and Zak traced the steps of Vlad Tepes from his birth to his death…well mostly.  Zak also went to the famous haunted forest, the  Hoia-Baciu forest.  If you’ve never heard of it, it’s a hot bed of activity.  There is a clearing in the center of the forest where no trees will grow, and there is no known explanation for it.  Destination Truth went there and one of their crew was attacked.  They had gone back a second time and the guy was attacked again, whatever is in that forest really didn’t like him.  Whatever is there grabbed Zak the night he went too, only it didn’t draw blood like it did with the guy from Destination Truth.  He had quite an experience though, and then they went further into the forest and he saw a big red ball floating around.  It was quite interesting.  They showed the story of a little girl that had gone missing in those woods as a child.  Her parents searched and searched for her, but never found her.  Then suddenly five years later she appeared out of the mysterious forest.

The infamous Prince Vlad was known for his ferocity.  He was a fierce ruler but he saved his country from the Turks and is regarded as a hero there.  His methods were harsh, for example the castle has a room where they kept two bears and fed people to them for entertainment.  Guess they were really bored without wifi.  Back to the show, they recorded a lot of evps and had some awesome experiences in the castle.  It’s great to watch just to see Romania and the land of the infamous Prince known as “The Impaler.”

Destination Truth tiny aliens

This was a really fascinating episode, I love this show even though their seasons might only be three episodes.  They have found some new species in a few episodes, or at least evidence from previously unknown species.  It’s a great show.  This episode they found some weird shit, it was a good one.

I couldn’t get this video to show up in here, so annoying. You’ll have to go to the website where I found it (above).
